Welcome to the Website of the Vernon Selectboard

Vernon Vermont was founded in 1753. It covers an area of 20 square miles bordering Massachusetts and the Connecticut River. This close community with a population of 2,141 boasts the first permanent structure in Vermont, Fort Dummer, even though the original structure is now underwater. Vernon is also the home of Entergy Vermont Yankee, a nuclear power plant that produces about a third of Vermont's electricity and The Vernon Dam which produces approximately 35,000 KW. Many farms, small businesses and family homes make up the rest of the town.
